Jimmy Robbins Rules Country Songwriters Chart, Thanks to Hits by Maren Morris & Kelsea Ballerini

February 21, 2020

He reigns thanks to Morris’ ‘The Bones’ and ‘Homecoming Queen?’ by Ballerini.

Jimmy Robbins hits No. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Songwriters chart (dated Feb. 22), leading the tally for the first time on the strength of two writing credits on the latest Hot Country Songs ranking.

Maren Morris‘ “The Bones,” which Robbins co-wrote with Morris and Laura Veltz, places at No. 2, matching its peak with 60.9 million in all-format radio reach, 9.9 million U.S. streams and 6,000 sold, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Kelsea Ballerini‘s “Homecoming Queen?,” which Robbins co-penned with Ballerini and Nicolle Galyon, follows at No. 21.

Robbins also solely produced “Queen” and co-produced Maddie & Tae’s “Die From a Broken Heart” (which hits a new peak at No. 32) with Derek Wells.

Robbins has earned 21 career entries on the Hot Country Songs chart as a writer, three of which have hit No. 1: Blake Shelton’s “Sure Be Cool If You Did” (his first songwriting credit on the survey), Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert’s “We Were Us,” both in 2013, and Jake Owen’s “Beachin’,” in 2014. Nine of Robbins’ 21 entries have reached the top 10.

On Country Airplay, Robbins also has 21 songwriting entries, including eight No. 1s, with “The Bones” marking his latest, as it leads the list for a second week. It’s the first song by a woman and no accompanying acts to reign for multiple weeks in over seven years, since Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” in 2012.

The weekly Country Songwriters and Country Producers charts are based on total points accrued by a songwriter and producer, respectively, for each attributed song that appears on the Hot Country Songs chart; As with Billboard‘s yearly recaps, multiple writers or producers split points for each song equally (and the dividing of points will lead to occasional ties on rankings).
