Micky James Releases Bowie-Inspired Single ‘Give It to Me Straight’: Billboard Premiere

January 18, 2018

New York native Micky James is aiming to bring back ’70s style in 2018. After teaming up with producer Shep Goodman (American Authors) and Aaron Accetta, James has debuted his first single, the rock throwback “Give It to Me Straight.”

Featuring gang vocals and impressive guitar solos, the upbeat track is inspired by the likes of David Bowie and The Clash. “I wanted to take pieces of nostalgia and give it a contemporary twist,” James tells Billboard. The energetic single does just that — blending ’70s influences with layers of modern rock.

James says the track, which is out on Dirty Canvas Records, fell into place quickly. “They say some of your best work, or the best songs you write, appear from the sky and happen pretty instantaneous,” the singer-songwriter says. “Well I feel ‘Give It to Me Straight’ felt like one those songs”.
