Dan Call Serves Up “A Little Something for the Pain”

July 25, 2014

If there was any doubt whether American rock purists The Villains were ready to hang with the best the music biz has to offer, their third studio album, A Little Something For The Pain, out August 19, will soon put those doubts to rest.

Not that any substantial doubt ever existed, actually: The group has been enjoying both critical and fan acclaim since its 2010 debut. Now, A Little Something for the Pain, described by the band as “all killer, no filler,” is already making waves pre-release with lead single, “The First,” currently climbing the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

With two critically acclaimed albums under their belts—the band’s sophomore set Velocity was produced by produced by Stan Lynch (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Don Henley) and Billy Chapin (Backstreet Boys, Edwin McCain)—as well as years of experience writing and performing with a wide variety of artists, The Villains are poised to push their latest collection to the glorious limits of their musical abilities.

The album was produced by The Villains’ and Round Hill Music’s own Dan Call, who started the band with fellow musicians Magno, Sean McNally, and Michael Wilkes as a project while the four were on a 3-year touring stint with another artist.

“We knew topping our last record ‘Velocity’ would be a tall order,” Call notes. That said, he adds, “Overall, I think it’s a tougher record than our first two, as far as the vibe and lyrics are concerned. It’s a more solidified album, definitely. With three lead singers, it can be tough tying it all together theme-wise, but I think we accomplished that.”

While the album was definitely made with the tastes of the band’s current and robust fan base in mind, Call says that The Villains hope to attract many more ears with their latest work. “We hope to connect with listeners across all age groups and cultures,” he explains.“The songs and playing are our best yet,” Call assures. “To share that, with this group of guys, make me feel like the luckiest guy on earth.”

The Villains, who are also renowned for their energetic live shows, will be hitting the road for a U.S. tour in the fall. Check their official website for updates and venues.
